@Katzero - At least PHP has its uses. VB can do stuff, but PHP is far more powerful and a hell-of-a-lot faster.

Well ... I would say that VB.NET is the far more powerfull programming language.

You can create probably everything with VB.NET that you can create with PHP. But also Desktop Applications, Office extensions ( Word, Excel, Outlook ) and so on. PHP is more suitable for web applications and that not only because it's cheaper to host.

But it doesn't matter at all, because they both serve their purpose and after all I prefere C#.

Python trumps all :P jk, but it is my favorite language. I've been using it here and there for about a year and a half, though I could say the same about: C, PHP, and Javascript.

I'm now looking for projects to truly put my knowledge of these languages to the test to better my skills as a programmer. I've also decided to diversify my languages a bit so I've started to learn SML/NJ and hope to get a good functional base from that. I've also decided to dedicate some time to programming algorithms, so if anyone has some good books/articles they would suggest, I'm all ears :).

And last but not least I find Python the best for it's simplicity in syntax as well as mindset used when programming with it. It also was far prettier than the PHP I first attempted to learn scripting with (sorry PHP guys...).

So there is the down-low on me (3 months after the last reply :S)

Python does not trump all. Python is used by networking guys that don't create large scale applications that take care of everyday tasks. I have been a programmer for 10 years. Started off in FORTRAN and VB, did desktop apps in C# for many years, worked with COBOL for 3 years, and have been doing asp.net for many years. Have programmed C/C++ for random things like Arduino. And have programmed for IOS and Android.

Was why I put the "jk" afterwards...as for the use case you mentioned, you're right, it is pretty good for those purposes, but it is also used in quite a few other areas (https://wiki.python.org/moin/OrganizationsUsingPython for and idea). Not trying to start any language wars, just saying what my preference is.

I have been playing with Photoshop the last 8 months or so, and have recently began playing around and looking at HTML/CSS, you can see what I have done on www.radiorhys.hostoi.com - Total noob, have googled a lot, most of learning it was looking at templates.

I know VHDL. I've been tinkering with it for about a year now. Its not directly for computers, but FPGAs instead. I know C as well for Atmel products.
On the computer side of things I've played with C++ and Java for like a day (eww).
