Little, I'm absolutely agree with your arguments.
OXY team plays AW since almost the beginning for the fun of playing together with our friends IRL or not and make new ones :)

Some can't play enough but members of their team can do the job and defend them. This is the real interest of this game, a real community game. If everyone have to defend alone his planets, alliances exist for nothing.
Without this possibility, I can be sure no more OXY members will play again. It's not an ultimatum but we are all old players (40-50-60 years) and we don't wake up in the night anymore as we did 20 years ago ;)
We play to other games to enjoy to be and to do our best together. Nothing else.

Solo playing was possible in old AW outside the core.
So many players (like me) play for team mate, cooperation and strategy than only ally can offer.

AW without ally is like pong, fun on a short time, not sure to appreciate with time.
Sadly.

Alliances wasn't even a game mechanics back in 2002 and earlier when I played. Not sure on the year. It was a player made thing.

Back then players had to add there alliance tag as part of there name. So definitely wasn't always a alliance game. Even though playervbased incorporated it in them selves before it became a actually game mechanic.

Adding alliances was a huge deal too. Was a ton mix feelings on it.

You are wrong at this Point(again).

The Tag was added Automatically, when a Player joined an alliance.

Made IT much easier to See Relations and many more.

Maybe U will find Out yourself, when playing as an Allied once.

Nobody Had to do something.
An important Point.

I'm actually inserting a new type of alliance mechanic in system lords. "Another game I made"
That I'm gonna experiment with.

Where players form alliances individually with players.

Where Ted can be allied with John and Fred but John and Fred can be at war.

I know the tag was added after joining an alliance.
At one time there was no join alliance option. From my memory anyways.

Alliances were a basic mechanic.

They were built before round start, race choice, role/function of each one: fighter (heavy, speeder, early, late, defender), scientist (biologist for intel), ranker, etc...
All was made for the ally to have the most chance to achieve the goal they decided before the round start.

Even a fun fighting round was a possible goal.

Relations between alliances did the political/fighting map.

How an alliance could have tried the alliance ranking if not able to watch his members asses ^^

For me a mechanic doesn't have to be coded in a game to exist.

Creation of ally and relation between them were mostly done out of the game (NAPs weren't implemented in AW) but they had a huge impact on the round

Idk why I have that memory of no alliances. I actually have the entire change log of old AW. Ill post it on the forum. I havnt read to much of it yet. Ton of good stuff in it though.

@Poisonivy nah its not like NAPs, although will be NAP in it.

Added the alliance features to the to do list

Thanks shadow
I understand what you think , it s difficult for solo player but this is the astro game
Lots of alliance don t attack solo or 1 vs 1

Finale this game is différent because there is à end each 2 months, so player who has failed can do à New start for next round , thats why we let players lost all planet
It s impossible with other games which never end. It’s astro spirit :)
